The workshop showcased thrilling experiments using common items such as salt, cornstarch, chamomile tea, cleaning agents, yeast, vinegar, baking soda, and food dye. Students were amazed by the combustion of cornstarch, the methylated spirit flame experiment, and the powerful hydrogen peroxide and yeast oxygen blast. They also witnessed the captivating iodine and starch color change reaction and discovered chamomile tea’s use as a natural pH indicator.

This innovative and engaging session demonstrated how household materials could be used to explain key scientific principles. Professor Ashworth’s hands-on approach left students inspired, encouraging them to explore chemistry in creative and relatable ways.
